The sun puts on a show

All it took was a glance skyward on Saturday 25 April 2026 to see a halo forming around the sun — a perfect ring of light, visible from across the island.

Halos like this appear when sunlight passes through ice crystals suspended high in the atmosphere, in thin cirrus clouds. The crystals bend the light at a consistent angle, which is why the ring always forms at the same apparent distance from the sun. Tradition holds that a halo announces rain within a day or two, and there is something in it: cirrus often runs ahead of an approaching weather system.

Look up, but never straight at the sun — shield it behind a roof edge or a tree, and the ring shows itself.

In Guadeloupe, even the sky puts on a performance.
